SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly volleyball team has released its schedule for the 2017 season, head coach Sam Crosson announced on Wednesday.
The Mustangs will spend the first four weeks of their 2017 season on the road competing against 12 teams across four tournaments.
"We are excited and looking forward to the upcoming 2017 schedule and season. We are playing several quality opponents as part of our non-conference schedule, programs who have shown success with both their overall records and final finish within their conferences from the 2016 season. "
The Mustangs boast nine returners, including AVCA All Region honorable mention and Big West All-Conference First Team Taylor Nelson, All-Conference First Team Raeann Greisen and All-Conference honorable mention Adlee Van Winden.
The Mustangs will kick off preseason play on Aug. 25 against Northern Illinois at the Northern Illinois Tournament in DeKalb, Ill., The tournament will continue through Aug. 26, with matches against Dayton and High Point.
Cal Poly will spend the next three weeks traveling to Seattle, Wash., for the University of Washington Tournament, and then to Eugene Ore. to participate in the University of Oregon Tournament.
The last stop on the Mustangs' preseason schedule is Green Bay, Wis., where the squad will take on University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, North Dakota and IUPUI, on Sept. 16.
"The goal with our non-conference schedule is to prepare our team for the rigors of competing in the Big West Conference, "said Crosson. "I believe we have a great non-conference schedule that will test and challenge our team on many fronts and also help our RPI, which is one of the determining factors for qualifying for post season play".
The Mustangs will host eight matches in Mott Athletics Center, with their home opener being against Cal State Fullerton on Friday Sept. 22.
