Cal Poly 2 Shots Off Lead in Fresno State Classic Women's Golf Tourney

FRESNO, Calif. – The Cal Poly women's golf team will enter Tuesday's final round of the Fresno State Classic just two shots behind first-place and fellow Big West Conference member UC Irvine.

Coach Sofie Aagaard's Mustangs posted back-to-back four-person rounds of 299 on the 6,119-yard, par-72 San Joaquin Country Club course and has a 22-over-par 598 total after 36 holes of play.

UC Irvine carded a 299 in the morning and a 297 in the afternoon for a 20-under-par 596 total. UC Riverside is another two shots back at 600.

Martina Edberg of Cal State Fullerton has a two-shot lead over Jakeishya Le of UC Riverside with one more round to be played. Edberg shot 71 and 69 for a four-under-par 140 total while Le posted a 70 and 72 for a 142 aggregate.

Janet Yeo of UC Irvine is third at even par 144 following her 73 and 71.

Cal Poly's top golfer after two rounds is Jamie Binns (pictured above) at three over par 147 after posting a 75 and 72, good for a sixth-place tie. Jamie Harada is tied for 13th at 149 after a 73 and 76.

Also scoring for the Mustangs are Desiree Gillaspy, tied for 25th with a 75-78-153; Mallory Meuhlbauer, tied for 28th with an 81-73—154; and Sophie Bergland, also tied for 28th with a 76-78—154.

Competing as an individual, Tiffany Cha is tied for 28th place with a 72-82—154.

Harada leads the field in par-3 scoring at minus 2 while Gillaspy and Binns are tied for seventh in par-5 scoring at minus-1. Gillaspy's 26 pars over 36 holes are No. 5.
