Cal Poly Track Establishes 22 Season or Career Bests at Beach Invitational

LONG BEACH — Led by three lifetime-best performances, in addition to five more collegiate PRs along with 14 season-best times and marks on Saturday, the Cal Poly track & field team shined on Day 2 at the Beach Invitational, concluding an action-packed weekend for the program in Southern California.

Eight Mustangs posted second-day top-20 finishes at the 23rd annual meet in Jack Rose Stadium.

There were more than 3,500 individual participants at LBSU, including not only dozens of college squads from around the nation but also international professionals and club organizations. Cal Poly's results are detailed below.

Also on Saturday, Cal Poly alumna Sharon Day-Monroe finished third in the high jump with a clearance of 6 feet and three-quarters of an inch — the top height in two seasons for the former NCAA national champion Mustang now an Olympian heptathlete — in addition to taking 16th in the 100m hurdles, in 13.80 seconds.

Up next, the Mustangs will travel to Clovis for Fresno State's Bulldog Invitational on Saturday, April 22 in Veterans Memorial Stadium, before hosting UC Santa Barbara for the annual Blue-Green Rivalry Dual Meet and regular-season finale on April 29.
